Earthquakes are a devastating natural phenomena. For people to live in the areas most affected by earthquakes, it is important to be able to create buildings that can survive the violent shaking. This Earthquake Shake Table allows students to test different structures to see which ones are designed the best. The base is 16” x 16” and has four strong springs at the corners. This allows students to investigate horizontal and vertical vibrations. The base has adjustable mountings to hold a variety of tower bases. A tower can have a base up to 12”. The pair of motors are mounted underneath and have a protective cage so fingers can not be injured while it is in motion. The motors can be easily powered by a 1 – 5 V DC power supply.(Required but not included) The motors are intended to be a reliable and consistent source of vibrations for demonstrators. They can be powered individually or together. When testing student designs, you can also have the students shake the base with their hands if a more energetic vibration is needed. This is a shaking apparatus only. The building materials for towers is to be supplied by the user as well as the power supply.
